About Delta Tau Delta

Delta Tau Delta was founded in 1858 at Bethany College in present day West Virginia.  Eight men, angered by a fixed vote for an oratory prize given by the Neotrophian Literary Society (a forum for students to practice and demonstrate skills in poetry, public speaking, and writing essays), responded by forming a secret society.  The purpose of the new society, known by the Greek Letters Delta Tau Delta, was to see the Neotrophian Society returned to popular control and to form an organization of students drawn together by common aims, brotherly regard, and desire for mutual support.

Delta Tau Delta was born of the knowledge that integrity is essential.  The founding principles of Truth, Courage, Faith, and Power have provided a foundation and guide for both the Fraternity and its members.  Since 1858 the Fraternity has spread with over 130 active chapters and colonies comprised of over 8,000 undergraduate members.  During the organization's 150+ year history, Delta Tau Delta has had in excess of 150,000 men who have taken their oaths as Delts.

Our Mission, Committed to Lives of Excellence, isn't just a slogan for Delta Tau Delta, it's a way of life.  The purpose of the Fraternity is to provide a values-based experience surrounding the principals of truth, courage, faith and power. The men of Delta Tau Delta are taught how to live these principals in their daily lives:

Committed to Excellence — At the very core of Delta Tau Delta is the drive to prepare members for success.

Committed to Brotherhood — Delta Tau Delta gives members a support network unlike any other.

Committed to Leadership — Leadership is the foundation of a successful man and Delta Tau Delta recognizes the importance of exceptional leadership skills for all of life’s challenges.

Committed to the Community — How are you making an impact in your community and in your world?

Committed to Scholarship — Delts are lifelong learners and self-directed education begins in college and continues throughout life.
